It was drawing from observation and improving my painting and drawing skills in college that cemented my interests in illustration and fine art painting. During my time at university I established a keen eye for photography and my work was mostly centred on portraiture. However, whilst studying on Interactive Arts at Manchester Metropolitan University, my work has evolved tremendously. My end of first year exhibition was a series of ink drawings which I had developed through methods of performance and use of props. In my second year, I specifically honed my craft based skills, perfecting paper cut outs and branching out into installation based artwork that also incorporated uses of light and projections. Now in my final year of Interactive Arts, I have become more confident in my abilities to execute ambitious work. I constantly evolve my personal practice and as a result I have married my practice with personal interests such as astronomy, geography and cartography in order to explore themes I am deeply concerned with.

Employment:
CUBE Gallery, 113-115 Portland Street, Manchester. Gallery Volunteer, November 2010-March 2011.

At the CUBE Gallery I started my volunteering position by involving myself with pre-exhibition jobs. This involved marketing and flyer distribution in advance of the exhibition opening evening. Once the new exhibition show opened I worked shifts invigilating the gallery space. This position has given me the opportunity to learn a lot about the displayed work and artists, and discuss these with the general public. Discussing contemporary artwork with a variety of people has broadened my knowledge and capabilities of viewing and forming analytical opinions on modern art.

Moore & Son Newsagents, Glossop. SK13 6NN Sales Assistant, 2005-2011
This job within a Post Office and Newsagent business has been hugely beneficial to me as a first job. My duties include: serving and assisting customers, stock rotation and stock control, managing paper work and money, and occasionally being responsible for the workplace or new employees. Often working alone has enhanced my capabilities for independence, motivation, and concentration whilst working or studying. Yet still belonging to a small group of staff has sharpened my communication and cooperation skills.
